Job Description

Job Summary

SCG Tech Solutions is seeking two Junior Software Developers to join our growing software engineering team in Fort Worth. The role contributes to the design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement of software solutions that support real transportation and logistics operations.
We are looking for early-career engineers with strong software engineering fundamentals, sound problem-solving skills, curiosity, and professional accountability. We hire primarily for engineering fundamentals and expect candidates to be comfortable learning and working within a modern software stack. Company-specific technology, business context, and domain knowledge are developed through the work.

Technology Environment

Our engineering environment includes Python, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, APIs, SQL and PostgreSQL, Git-based development, CI/CD, cloud platforms, observability, and AI-assisted software development. Depending on the project, developers may also work with geospatial data, mapping, routing, integrations, automation, and data-intensive applications.
Candidates are not expected to have professional experience with every technology listed. Strong fundamentals, experience with at least one modern programming language, and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies are more important than matching the stack tool for tool.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Clarify requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, assumptions, constraints, edge cases, and expected software behavior before implementation.

  2. Design, implement, refactor, andmaintain clear and reliable software using sound engineering principles and appropriate responsibility boundaries.

  3. Build backend services, integrations, APIs, and user interfaces within SCG Tech Solutions' technology environment.

  4. Create andmaintain meaningful automated tests, debug systematically, and verify software behavior using evidence and testable hypotheses.

  5. Work with application interfaces, relational data, validation, error handling, and basic data-quality safeguards.

  6. Use version control and collaborative code review to support traceable, reviewable, and maintainable software changes.

  7. Apply secure development and software configuration practices, includingappropriate handling of credentials, secrets, access, dependencies, and environment-specific settings.

  8. Participatein established CI/CD, build, test, deployment, monitoring, release, rollback, and production-support processes while using logs and operational evidence to understand software behavior.

  9. Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly while independently understanding, verifying, testing, debugging, securing, refactoring, and explaining the resulting software.

  10. Communicate technical decisions, assumptions, blockers, risks, and escalation needs clearly while collaborating with technical and business stakeholders and contributing to continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving and requirements reasoning, including the ability to identify assumptions, constraints, missing information, edge cases, and practical trade-offs.
  • Ability to write, read, debug, explain, and improve software using at least one modern programming language, with working knowledge of core software design principles.
  • Understanding of common data structures, basic algorithmic and complexity reasoning, and how software choices affect correctness and maintainability.
  • Understanding of software testing and debugging, including unit and integration testing and familiarity with Test-Driven Development principles.
  • Working knowledge of application interfaces, SQL, relational database concepts, data validation, and foundational web application concepts.
  • Working knowledge of version control and collaborative code review, plus basic understanding of software configuration, development environments, logs, deployment, and controlled software delivery.
  • Basic understanding of secure coding and the appropriate handling of credentials, sensitive information, dependencies, and access.
  • Ability to use AI-assisted development tools responsibly while understanding and validating the software produced.
  • Strong communication, accountability, curiosity, coachability, intellectual honesty, and willingness to learn from feedback.

Education:  A completed bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, IT/IS with substantial software-development coursework, or a related field is strongly preferred. Equivalent demonstrable software-development preparation may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship, capstone, research, open-source, freelance, personal-project, or professional evidence of building software applications or services.
  • Exposure to one or more technologies in our environment, such as Python, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with software projects involving significant data processing, data integration, data engineering, or data-quality concerns.
  • Exposure to logistics, transportation, fleet operations, supply chain, or related industries.
  • Familiarity with GIS, geospatial data, mapping, routing, or location-based applications.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, containers, automated delivery pipelines, observability, or production environments.
  • Exposure to AI/ML integrations, AI-assisted software development, or AI-enabled application capabilities.

Work Authorization and On-site Requirement

This is a full-time, on-site position in Fort Worth, Texas. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. SCG Tech Solutions does not provide employment-based immigration sponsorship for this position.

Why Join SCG Tech Solutions

You will join a growing engineering team building software for real transportation and logistics operations. The work is not limited to isolated exercises or internal demos. You will contribute to applications, integrations, automation, data-intensive systems, and AI-assisted solutions that support real business processes and production environments.
As an early member of the software engineering team, you will work across multiple parts of the software delivery lifecycle, collaborate directly with Technology Leadership and business stakeholders, and develop broader engineering judgment as your capability, delivery quality, and independence grow. Our on-site environment in Fort Worth supports close collaboration, faster access to operational context, and direct interaction with the people who use and depend on the software we build.
